what i find very interesting is that a lot of guys are startled by my calling women chicks (ex., "let's go ask that chick over there.") i think they get afraid. "did she say what i thought she said?" it's kinda funny.

Re: saying "chick"
Thu, December 4, 2003 - 1:10 PMYes! They are really taken aback by it, or amused. I guess maybe men use it as a perjorative term, but I think it's a term that conveys femininity with strength. -

Re: saying "chick"
Thu, December 4, 2003 - 5:59 PMLooooove being a chick. When I traveled in London I also enjoyed being a bird! Been called a tomata, but advised the guy who used that term that since he's not James Cagney it wasn't at all cool. Don't like gal or girl either.
Chick totally works for me! -

Re: saying "chick"
Mon, December 15, 2003 - 10:18 PMYou know, it is funny how men never know what to call us. When they call me chick, I call them cock, when they call me girl I call them boy. I just find the opposite thing to whatever they call me, JUST to watch them stop and think about it. I don't mind being called a chick at all. My mother's maiden name is Chick as a matter of fact. I hate being called broad, ho, bitch, etc... Poor guys, they will forever live in a state of confusion about us. -

Chicks Roxor :oP
Mon, December 15, 2003 - 11:18 PMI have to say that if a guy called me a ho, id probably tell him where to stick is attitude :oP
My nick online is marschick, so I get called chick all the time, i think its a lot less formal and more personable that girl, and less annoying than having someone you barley know call you babe :o)
I work in a mostly male environment, and i guess that chick is just the right mix of friendly and polite.
It also reminds me of how damn fun it actually is being a chick :oP

Amen. When I discovered cars & chicks at about the same time, cars & gadgets made sense but y'all were a total mystery. I'm longer in the tooth now but the mystery persists. :-) Guess it's 'cause we're from Mars.
Actually, I'm pleased to see what you're writing here. I can remember back when feminism was newer and "chick" was definitely forbidden territory. Lotta sensitivity then.
But it's always different, happily, with close friends, male or female. I've been called everything under the sun by pals & dish it right back. As long as you've got a smile when you say it, all is ok. -

Re: saying "chick"
Wed, January 21, 2004 - 7:06 PMIf I find a girl (excuse me - I mean chick), to be attractive or personable..... or both....
I tend to refer to her as "Sunshine", "Sugar" or "Sweetie".....
Are these acceptable terms?
Being red blooded confused male, I thought I'd seek enlightenment from you chicks....
Comments, praise, abuse... welcome -

Re: saying "chick"
Thu, January 22, 2004 - 3:43 PMi think as long as you are sincere and it's appropriate, i don't see any problems. i tend to call everyone "dear." :-) -
-
Re: saying "chick"
Thu, January 22, 2004 - 4:09 PMI use "dear" also,,,but only after I've known someone for a while.... It's a bit more personal and implies an emotional attachment... -
